Templaty Note-Taking

Idea

Most of note-taking apps are bound to a basic format. It’s as if you are writing on a paper notepad. If you need a box while taking your note, you will have to draw it.
The idea is to create a note-taking app that allows customization templates. Think about playing bingo, the app loads bingo template and user fills this up. Once done, the data is saved. Often time, note-taking in an event or a conference is very specific to a format.
An organization can also create templates for forms, such as employment application form or volunteer sign up application, to collect information.
Further development can include storing all templates in cloud that users can download to their device.

Benefit

  • Custom template for all use.
  • Everybody can create their own template.
  • Paperless forms.
  • Better handling of data: normalization and data integrity.

How?

In technical detail, the templates are built with standard HTML5 & CSS3. The app will load any template and save the data just like how any form on the Internet save the form data.

Social Survey

Idea

Many surveys begin with asking basic information (sex, age, city, etc) before going to the specific questions of the survey. An improvement for this area can be made by letting participants to login with their Facebook / LinkedIn account. By logging in with their social network account, we can directly ask the survey’s specific questions, all the basic information is captured thru the social network accounts. Obviously, privacy is a concern as well as staying anonymous, so the system will only take basic information from the accounts.
Another benefit we can gain from this concept is that the surveyors / researchers can target specific demographic. For example, the researchers want to survey all female living in zip code of 98728. The system (or app) will then notify all its female users who live in 98728 about the available survey. This also gives the researchers real-time survey answers which opens an opportunity for real-time survey such as surveying traffic on a specific hours in a construction site.
Incentive program can also be implemented to encourage participants and responses.

Benefit

  • Real-time survey and response.
  • Targeted demographic.
  • Time-saving and direct survey.

How?

By using participants’ social network accounts, we gain all the benefits above.

Circle of Trust

Idea

Often times, we are afraid to shop online because of fraud. We don’t trust individuals who sell items online. At least to me, this is true, especially with web site like CraigList where there is no specific rules regarding transactions. We don’t trust some individuals online because we can’t verify their identity and whether they have done something fraudulent before.

This idea is to create a system that will verify an individual identity and determine how trust worthy an individual is while allowing users to remain anonymous online.

This can be used in practically all online transactions and devices, be it web application or mobile app.

Benefit

  • Real-time identity verification.
  • Everybody can stay anonymous.
  • Peace of mind when it comes to buying online.

How?

Think of it like BBB, but for individuals person. Everybody will need to verify their information and identify with the system. Verification will require users to send in documents and the system must also verify the authenticity of the documents.

Online accounts can also be provided, such as Facebook’s profile, Twitter’s accounts, Google+ profile, Ebay accounts, etc, as additional information about the users. The system will verify each of the account provided by the users. For every additional information provided, it will increase the trust-worthiness of a user in online worlds.

The system will also allow feedback from other users / parties. The feedback can be positive or negative which will impact how each users reliability in doing online transactions. The feedback, along with users’ identity and online account information, will determine users final score which tells their trust-worthiness.

The system provides API that allows any body to check and see users trust-worthiness’s score by an authorized token that users have created. So, only with the authorized token, can one verify the score and trust-worthiness. In addition, the verification doesn’t reveal any information about the users, it will only reveal how trust-worthy, its score and any information the user wants to reveal. Verifying parties will only need an authorization token. This way, users can remain anonymous.

Start-Up Weekend App

Idea

I am a big fan on start-up business and start-up weekend really offers a platform for like-minded people to get together and build a company.

But, start-up weekend event is only hosted every now and then. Why don’t create the app where we can interact with everybody on daily, continuous basis?

Benefit

  • Real-time, continuous.
  • User profile provide detail information of their area of expertise.
  • Built-in project management tools.
  • Scheduling assistance, for meeting, etc.

How?

It’s basically match-maker for venture capitalists, developers / designers, sales reps and project managers. Every users can create their own project of their idea. Then, developers / designers can pick a project they want to participate based on their area of expertise. Based on the team needs, the project may include additional project mangers, business analyst or marketers. Venture capitalist will then come in and see project details including all its members profiles and decide on what project to throw money into.

Digital Invoices and Receipts

Idea

I am sure this is out there somewhere, either in form of idea or actually application.

The idea is simple, an application that will manage digital invoices and receipts. Obviously, to be 100% paperless, it requires cooperation and integration with a lot parties such as retail stores, restaurants, vendors, service providers and basically all the places where we normally get our invoices / receipts. However, this ideas deals with management of the digital documents as well as helping digitalized existing one in any way possible. This will encourage all parties to start sending their invoices / receipts digitally.

Benefit

  • Paperless, earth friendly, green living.
  • Security, no misplace of documents.
  • Ease of management.
  • Fasten document submission / processing (reimbursement, tax filing, etc).
  • No loss of documents.

How?

Build an application that allows users to manage their digital documents. The system can upload, organize, and store all user documents. From this portal, user can also print or email out specific document.

Some of the ways we can digitalized existing documents are by scanner device and mobile app to take photo of the documents. After these documents are digitalized, the device will automatically upload them to user’s account in our application.

The application provides email inbox where users can send in the invoices / receipts as attachment. The system will then parse the attachment and turn in to digital documents. The email inbox is user-specific and can also be used for any stores to send digital document to the user. Eventually, the documents will be available when user logs in to the application.

All documents uploaded to the system will be OCR-ed. This way, users can categorized their documents based on vendor names, recipient names, prices, etc.

Firmware-Free, Interoperable Devices

The Idea

Communication between devices has been great challenges for many years. This is mainly concerning the firmware the device is based on. Even if two devices have same firmware, there’s still additional effort to enable communication between the two devices.

For example, if you want to transfer a photo from your phone to your computer, you would need a USB cable to connect the phone to your computer and a driver for your computer to recognize the phone and read the data stored in the phone.

This idea is to allow communication between devices wireless-ly, regardless of its firmware, without need of specific protocol or driver.

Benefit

  • Firmware agnostic.
  • Interoperable.
  • Wireless communication means no need of any driver.

Why is it possible?

What make this idea possible is a long-existence technology called RFID, or Radio Frequency Identification. RFID has been used pretty much every part of our life, from any form of wireless communication to proximity card to secure access to certain rooms.

Implementing RFID to every devices allows each device to talk to others nearby, this communication is also able to transfer files, photos, or any kind of data.

The data type sent must be standardized. When transferring data, the header information must contains metadata of the what being transferred (data type, date time, etc). It’s up to each of the device to define how to process the data it receives, this depends on the firmware.

The idea can be further extended to what will activate the communication. For example, any presence of another RFID-enabled device will not automatically trigger communication. The communication must be initiated by swiping the photo in your phone to the direction of other device nearby.

New Way to Promote Daily Deals

I keep getting emails from friends about Starbucks or Chick-fil-A deals. To some people, it’s useful, for me it’s annoying. I know how to find deals on the big I and if I need one, I will go find it. Regardless, deals hunter / daily deals company can leverage this to help them promote their deals and compensating the promoter with little something.

The Idea

This idea is actually an old idea and has been used by online retailers long time ago. It’s called Affiliate programs, some call it Associate, or Rewards program. The program allows you to sign up for an affiliate account and provide you many ways to promote their products (link, email, picture, etc). You will then get rewarded based on your performance.

The programs can also be implemented by any daily deals companies.

Benefit

  • Leverage all users to help generate sales.
  • Reward loyalty and high performance users.
  • Mouth-to-mouth advertising, very effective.

Why is it possible?

Many reasons. First, not everybody knows how and where to find good deals on the Internet, some are just not very tech savvy. Some don’t have time to hunt for better deals. Some don’t care.

Secondly, there are always those annoying friends who like to spam others with deals. This will encourage them even more. On the other side though, these people are useful for companies.

Plus, your friends probably know what you need / want / like better than any deals hunter sites. So, rather than you browsing around many deals hunter sites, your friend can just send you whatever you need.

Will it work?
